One of the greatest ALL Time Books

I am an avid reader having read different types of books, from fast paced thrillers to classics, from self help books to philosophy and from autobiographies to science fiction.

    A handful of the
thousands of books and authors read by me, have made a lasting impression and have directed or rather changed the course/ direction of my life. These are,
“How to Win Friends and Influence People” Dale Carnegie, “Your Erroneous Zones”, Dr Wayne Dyer, “The Power of Your Subconscious Mind” Dr Joseph Murphy, “Story of Philosophy” Will Durand, Norman Vincent Peale, Leon Uris, Ayn Rand. and Socrates to name a few. The latest addition to this list is “The Journey Home” authored by Radha Nath Swamy This book belongs to the third category of all-time great books.

“The Journey Home” is the story of the struggle of a youth, trying to find the meaning
of life; something beyond materialistic comforts, the security of a home and a loving family. The author is an American Jew, a product of the Hippy culture of the 60s. His journey is a saga of grit and determination in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds for trying to attain something beyond the realm of reason and common sense. The author, penniless and without any belongings, travels thousands of Kilometers, through hostile terrain, climate and people to fulfill an urge, a dream, an attraction towards a goal of which even he is unsure. From the riches and amenities of the modern cities of America to Europe, then overland through Greece to Turkey to Iran then through the poverty and chilling climes of tribal areas of Afganistan and Pakistan the author walks and hitchhikes to reach the tranquil environs of the Himalayas and the Ganges. From here he travels the length and breadth of India. During his travels he sifts and searches through the various religions and
creeds he comes across. The author longs for something to which he can dedicate his ultimate belongings, his life and soul. After years of tribulations he finally reaches his goal, a goal about which destiny had already given him a tantalizing glimpse right at the start of his journey.

Most of the events described in the book cover the two year period from 1970 to 1971, which the author spent in quest of a final and lasting path towards his divine goal. But
this book was published after a lapse of nearly forty years. The reason for this has been given by the author himself. His reluctance to make his story open for public consumption was overcome by the promise, to publish the narrative, extracted by his friend on his death bed with the words “It is not your story. It is a tale about how God led a young boy onto an amazing journey to seek the inner secrets that lie within all of us. Don’t be
miserly.” These words lead to the birth of a classic, which otherwise may have remained only in the memory of the author.
This classic is a must-read for everyone irrespective of caste, color, creed, religion or age.

    A soul-stirring Journey

I have read many books on spirituality, adventure, sci-fi, comedy both fiction and real-life stories but I have never ever read something that is so real yet truly incredible by any measure. A similar
story that I read by Paulo Coelho was “The Piligrimage” but it does not compare to anything I experienced when I read “Journey Home.” The sincerity and the life of the author that he has lived in India since the last 4 decades stands as a testimony to the experiences and determination that he showed in his quest to understand his one goal in life – “Love of God.”

If you have ever read any book in your life then I highly recommed that you read this book. It gives deep insights of the author’s realizations that we can borrow and apply within our lives. Being immersed in heaps of conditioning of city life we cannot arrive at some simple yet profound truths of life that have been so plainly explained in this book.

I want to be a winner, always. In the present day and age we have everybody running a rat race and this has always left me wondering about the consequences of winning such a race – I will, after all, be called a rat! Only rats can come first in a rat race. In my quest for a purpose to life and being a real winner I found solace in the teachings of His Holiness Radhanath Swami, which are so profound and deep that help us evolve into better human beings – human beings endowed with competence, character and devotion, human beings who become the carrier of love, not hatred. By imbibing the teachings of His Holiness in our lives, we no longer identify ourselves as belonging to a particular family, society, sect or nation. Instead we become the assets of society spreading the warmth of love and joy all over on the basis of solid philosophical understanding. In present times when we may be nuclear giants but are emotional infants, when we tend to break down so often – professionally, socially, economically, politically, we are in the urgent need of such teachings in our lives. I wish His Holiness writes more and more such books like the Journey Home so that the whole world can get benefitted by his teachings.

It may be easy to open this book, but will be difficult to close it. When I started reading i would read untill 2 or 3 in the night.

It is extremely inspiring how a young teenager left the comforts of America on his quest for true spirituality. Going through extreme hardships and obstacles H.H. Radhanath Maharaj relentlessly continued his search for God, finally reaching India.

This book is a must for everyone, whether one is religiously inclined or not.

This book was amazing. I never had a habit of reading book too much. But with this book my experience was different. How adventurous search of God can be I realized after reading this book. Author’s prayerful attitude at all steps of his life is amazing to see. From the first page of the book, little Ritchie’s quest of Who God is and whether he loves me or not shows the sincerity of inner quest from the beginning of life. Learning from incidents in life was very aspiring. How the author saw the love and direction of Lord from different instances of his life gave an understanding to me how we can be grateful and thankful to God for everything He is bestowing on us and thus follow the His will.

The best thing was how at every moment this line was true to his life

I have read the book Journey Back Home and I very frankly say that I cannot find words to Glorify the Book. Today as I listen to Radhanath Swami, I try to recall what I read in his book and then I realise that it is not just that for the sake of Preaching that he is speaking, he has actually gone through all that in his life. Humility , Patience , Tolerance , Gratefullness , Trust & Faith ; these you will hear repeatedly in Radhanath Swami’s preaching Lectures and as you read his book you will realise that all thses qualities are inbibed in him from Birth.

I request everybody to not miss this opportunity and read this book atleast once and taste yourself the Nectar that will ultimately lead us Back To Godhead.

As you on page by page you come closer to this personality HH Radhanath Swami, and get to understand how this person was so maddened by his quest for learning about the Absolute truth. And this person did not know where to find. And God’s arrangement he comes to India.

In each predicament in his life – how God taught him valuable lessons and His Holiness had revealed them for the benefit of similar – all sorts seekers of absolute truth.

It is not only about the God realization he has taught, he has also taught the wonderful relationship he shared with all kinds of people from the places he traveled in his entire journey from America to India. And it’s amazing to read that he travelled to various far and wide place almost no money, for him it was not money that was required but the sincerity and determination was the driving force.

It’s a thrill to read so many close encounters with death during his journey to India and even after coming in India….so many difficulties, but still not willing to give up his goal for searching the absolute truth. It’s really amazing. Such determination is very very rare to see especially in current age.

This journey i believe is journey of every individual ,the phases which He went thru every one has to go thru those phases (in principle) in search of our lost love-GOD (Krishna).

Every event which he goes through ,He is seeing them as arrangement of God to bring him closer to Him. In every event ,he is trying to learn the lessons as of what God wants to teach me by this?

That requires a large extent of submissive attitude and freedom from rebellion especially when one goes thru such near death experiences in search of God….. seeing them as the purifications required to reach to level of realizing God.

The book is full of inspirations ,lessons and adventures.

One thing which touched my heart the most from the book is that God is the person most closest to us and is hearing our every prayer and is making the best possible arrangements to bring us closer to Him in accordance with our desires….

Every thing which is written is coming directly from the honest loving heart of the author .Some of the things which are admitted by the author as his faults are not possible to admit for any ordinary person conditioned by desires for name, fame & prestige……..

This book is reciprocation of love of author towards all its readers ,as what can be greater reciprocation of love then showing the readers the way to revive their lost relationship with God by personal example which is the most urgent need of every living being.

Thank You very much Radhanath Swami ….

And he commented that this is the best book to every one especially for who usually thinks that Bhagavad-Gita is typical spiritual book so they reluctant to read Bhagavad-Gita, but by reading Journey home they can get the same essence of Bhagavad-Gita any way. With this in mind what he did is, in his sons anna prasana (fist grain ceremony) party he distributed in gift bags 45 journey home books(one for each family) to the attendees and requesting every one to start reading the book, any way he knows once any one start reading this book, it is guaranteed he will not stop until finish.

  26. On April 22nd, 2010 at 3:59 am N. Swaminathan Says:

Why I liked The Journey Home?
The author didn’t have an extraordinary religious background or exposure to spiritual discourses, mystic performances or personal experiences in his childhood days. In that sense, his early days are easy to relate to. And he was no different than many of the American youth of those times who found the fabric of society lacking in integrity and consistency, for they couldn’t reconcile selfish pursuit of happiness on one end with rigid moral codes of conduct on the other. But what was different in him was that he was not fanatically opposed to establishments of any kind as were the others, and chose to search for answers through submissive inquiry and honest hope.
He listened to the heart and learnt everything from scratch, but permanently – brick by brick. He was truly introspective while contemplating, yet observant while learning. And he never took a half-hearted step. He always gave every path a full chance to act on him and to reveal itself, but never committed his entire life to it unless supported by his heart.
So deep was his tenacity to the heart’s call, that he undertook formidable hardships to follow it. But while his purpose was focused, he never missed an opportunity to pick up invaluable gems of knowledge along the path. Alert to every lesson life had to teach, he took each event as deep experiences touching his core and made firm resolutions reflecting and effecting the quantum changes in his consciousness.
Destiny does favour those who align themselves to it with their own efforts. Nothing proves this better than his journey – the song of the river, getting stranded in Lord’s birthplace, picking the picture of the Lord from among a host of other pictures as though finding a needle from a haystack……..
If the saga within is invigoratingly serious the adventure without is no less enchanting – quick sand, opium dens, assailants, camouflages, fugitives, mystic feats and unbelievable coincidences. Both these journeys captivate the mind. This book surely touches the heart.

No movie maker or a fiction writer can ever imagine to compose such a story! The book is replete with great adventurous and thrilling real-life events that take place in the life of a sincere seeker of the truth. This sets it apart from the mundane fiction stories of this world.

The most striking feature of the book that impressed me the most is the author’s all-encompassing approach to the different religions of the world. In his journey, HH Radhanath Swami learns from people of different faiths and beliefs. He is always in a humble and respectful spirit, and he never criticizes anyone.

In the current world scenario, which is infested with so much discord and disharmony on religious grounds, we need people like HH Radhanath Swami who can focus on the essence of all religions and bring about real peace, prosperity, and harmony!

Thank you very much HH Radhanath Swami for sharing your life’s journey with us.

Radhanath Swami at his very early age (actually the right age to start spiritual journey according to Prahlad Maharaj) was so serious & eager to understand the meaning and purpose of human life that, that is really appreciable. Also his journey shows that he studied so manyl varities of faiths, under so many teachers and practicing different types of processes but searching for the same one God. And the most important thing is that he was not completely satisfied until he meets the founder acarya of ISKCON His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada the ambassador of God. Radhanath Swami also says that he found the essence of all teachings in the books written by Srila Prabhupada. So I request the reader of this comment to please read Srila Prabhupada’s books.

The life of Radhanath swami is a living testimony, that the genuine faith in the divine plan of God for oneself; and valuing the relationship with each and every living being in relation with God can help us to confront the most difficult situations and endow us with the real bliss in life. Book is a panorama of “collecting the blessings “and sharing the “prayers and love“to whomever he came in contact with. His behemoth heart of gratitude and humility was a complete solution in all the terrains of life. Swami’s life depicts the principles of true religion, which is way beyond the artificial boundaries and tussle of so called religions of modern time and is actually a solution to the conflicts of the world. In today’s world when we hardly understand the difference between “Saints and swindlers”, a maven Sadhu of his caliber is a true shelter and hope for nearby and future generations.

As i read your book with a your picture and a dictionary beside me, my eyes brimmed with tears reading all the incredible difficulties and abuses you went through with utmost humility and devotion while still not giving up your search for Krsna. What a fantabulous presentation.Splendid.A thriller and an Epic indeed. Every aspect of Krishna Conscious philosophy you have laid out through your life’s experiences.
Of all the books that i have read in my life nothing has touched me so deeply as much as yours.Reading about your your child like innocence ,gratitude, friendship and dependence and craving for Krsna really affected me. Though i had heard Some of the accounts of your life from some of your wellwishers was interesting but reading it straight from you in your own written words was deeply touching. This book has developed a deep sense of bonding & affection for you and for the saintly community at large.I sincerely thank H.H Bhakti Tirtha Maharaja for impelling you to write this masterpiece (which you would’nt have out of humility). You have made a glorious offering to your own Guru & all the Vaisnava saints and vaisnavas.
I am not a person who would talk to you or write a letter to you over trivials as i am a shy kind of person. But this book has inspired me to so deeply that i could’nt resist but write. Thank you Very much once again.

Science is truth systematically arranged based on experiences gained from experiments in the laboratory.Experiences gained by His Holiness Radhanath Swami in the laboratory of his extraordinay life and described so vividly and candidly in the fascinating book ‘Journey Home’ have left a deep impression on my consciousness. It is amazing how the author has extracted spiritual truth from every rough and tough and smooth and sweet experience in his awe inspiring journey, the culmination of which was his meeting His Divine Grace, Bhaktivedanta swami Prabhupada.
I have read quite a few books in my life but no book has had such a profound impact on me as ‘Journey Home.” The book has taught me to look for essence and universal principles in every religion. It is a ‘Must read precious’ book, which one cannot put down once one starts reading it.

I remember as a kid I would be a voracious reader of Jeffrey Archer, Sidney Sheldon, Nick Carter, James Hadley Chase, James Bond…you name it in adventure and I would have read it…However, over the years, the taste for reading adventure books slackened considerably and I would be more drawn to reading philosophers like Nietzche and Aldous Huxley. Roots was one book that really caught my attention It must have been after nearly thirty years that I came accross the “Journey home” by Radhanath Swami and I must confess that this book beat all others hands down. Being born in an Indian so called brahmin family, I had neither this yearning nor the time to experiment with spiritualism during my young days. These were days of trying hard to climb the corporate ladder by hook or by crook and oh boy…was it frustrating ? Again and again being stabbed in the back by your colleagues and rapped on the knuckles by your bosses who were only on a self preservation drive did not teach me the futulity of trying to be an achiever. The environment drove you to work twelve to fourteen hours a day six days a week just to remain on the threadmill of corporate existence without falling off. I remember the first line of the book which went something like ” I climbed out from the freezing waters of the river Bagmati…” and instantly i was hooked to this book. i just could not keep it down. Eight hours later…I could only shake my head in amazement…How could one individual go through so much in such a short time…Of course, I believed every word that was written to be the truth and nothing but the truth although some of the episodes were so hair raising that they could only be out of a fairy tale…the episode of the mongoose, the episode of the beautiful girl wanting to seduce Radhanath swami…the episode at the India Border….truly unbelievable yet completely believable. This book is going to be etched in my mind till i die. Thank you Radhanath Swami for sharing your most intimate and priceless moments of your life with all of us.

MIND-BLOWING EXPERIENCE THAT TOOK ME TO A DIFFERENT HEIGHT
After seeing the book jacket, I was at once attracted to this book and had the desire to investigate what the book had to offer. Then I started reading the flaps of the book jacket and finally my interest grew more and more and I dived straight into the first chapter. The author has an excellent choice of words to describe his journey and at once I felt like I was also traveling with him with his narration of the respective scenarios. This book is an eye-opener and gives an insight into ones soul to do the right thing. As a reader, the author fully captivated me and took me through different cultures and different heights of emotion. I didn’t feel like putting the book away for some reason and I just wanted to climb higher and higher following the footprints of the author. This book is highly recommended to all the people, irrespective of nationality, culture and creed.
I’d rate it as an A+++++ (5 star rating).

    EXEMPLARY LITERATURE – A MUST READ !!!!
I ususally don’t write book reviews but this book really deserves a review. The title itself is attractive “The Journey Home” and directly captures the audience. In this regard, the author has presented a non-fictional succession of real life events that took him from one country to another. The book entails morals like celebrating others success, surrendering to the goal of life, exhibiting true humility, appreciating others, having patience and moving forward to achieve goals in life with determination, deligence, complete faith and surrender to the respective authorities. These are but some of the key points, however, there are many more to the list and one should read the book to get all realizations.
My little daughter, Radhika Priya whose 4 years of age, likes to hear bedtime stories and this story was a truly inspiring one where she asked questions and we both took on the journey together following the footsteps of HH Radhanath Maharaj.
Its and excellent reader for all !!!

The best thing about this book is truthfulness and honesty. I like the honesty in which the author has revealed his experiences at every step of his journey. Often times we do not hear or read such honest insights into the mind of a spiritualist. Often times people try to fictionalize their spiritual journeys which destroys the very purpose for which that book was written.

But in this book the author has not only revealed his personal experiences but also shared the wisdom that he gained from every such encounter. This makes this book a more interesting read.

On top of this, the author wrote this book on the request of his dying friend. That speaks a volume about the author’s self-less attitude. That really showed me that this person is not trying to sell himself but he is trying to share the wealth that he carries.

I wish and hope that all the readers of this book will be greatly benefitted by this book just as I have been.

    Happy reading !!!

I found this book The Journey Home not only a complete absorbing package of adventure, courage, determination, integrity, mysticism, spiritual revelations etc. but to me one of the most important gifts given by the author in this book is that the reader gets an insight into what a spiritual quest is all about and what is the goal and end result of such a quest. Often times people misunderstand spiritual revelation to be some sort of hallucination or state of the mind, even some people tend to relate the goal, means and experience of spiritual realization to be attainable by drugs and sex which is just the opposite of the true fact. One can see that the journey from a simple Richard Slavin to a great spiritual leader Radhanath swami came about not by drugs by great determination, sincere hard work, courage, high integrity, non-duplicity and a deep longing for God. All these facts so nicely coming out in the life of Radhanth Swami will reinvigorate the desire for spiritual realization amongst the sincere but misguided seekers throughout the world.

Also in this era when people in general have lost faith and trust in the proposition that a genuine spiritual path which can connect one to God and develop all the good qualities in ones persona can even exist, this book will bring fresh air and life to the genuine spiritual cultures and traditions of the world. The lack of this faith and trust has come about due to numerous scandals and criminal charges against many so called spiritual leaders of the world. But this book presents in an unbiased way that in all bonafide religious paths there is an element of genuineness and that success in spiritual endeavor depends more on the sincerity of the seeker rather than the external circumstances of the world or organization.

Personally I have derived great lessons from this wonderful book for my own small endeavor for self realization. I find myself deeply moved and inspired after reading the account of Radhanath Swami.

I have been hearing from him, his lectures as well as his kirtans, for past three years but never in wildest imaginations ever thought what all he could have gone through. I had heard that his life had been very adventurous and knew few of his pastimes but never in so much detail. Even his closest associates knew only about 25% of what has been described in the book – that’s all!! Two points I would like to mention here:
    1) It was the promise given to HH Bhakti Tirth Maharaj at the last moments that made Radhanath Maharaj speak out his most extraordinary and inspiring life. Out of his humility he considered his life’s experiences not worth mentioning and of no use. He always spoke of Krsna and Lord Caitanya Maharabhu, so much so that in reciprocation to his unhindered and unmotivated desire to spread the glories of Lord’s pastimes and His holynames for the ultimate benefit of all of us, Lord wants to speak about him through him only – what all he has gone through to achieve the most precious jewel of opportunity to loving serve the devotees of the Lord and Lord Himself. That’s the beauty of bhakti. Devotees want to glorify the Lord all the time and Lord transcendentally competes by orchestrating the situations where His own devotees are glorified.
    2) After studying the life of maharaj its no surprise that purity spills out of him just like nectar spills out of a bowl that is filled to brim. Just like, a sculptor uses his hammer and chisel to give shape to a raw stone, after going through all the tribulations maharaj’s divine personality shines like molten gold.
Thank You maharaj for blessing all of us with such a wonderful gift. Your life inspires me to be grateful to the Lord all the time by knowing that He is always there to guide you if you desire to come to Him. He will never leave you alone.

Richard Slavin went on his travels completely dependent on God and searching for God. No money, no acquaintances, just his strong desire to follow his inner callings. It is clear that if one lets off the petty shelters of money or high education or high birth and just take shelter of God, then ones life becomes the most exciting adventure. That is what Richard went through and that is what can happen with each and everyone but only when we submit ourselves to God’s plans. Otherwise our ordinary lives dont deserve even an article but the life of great souls like Radhanath Swami deserves many many books to be written and read.

Dear Readers of this wonderful book, i have an appeal. Please don’t take this book as one of the hundreds of autobiographies of people known and unknown which comes out into the market in hordes and then lost to oblivion. this book is a real life account of a great spiritual leader who has most mercifully revealed his innermost and most intimate moments with god. the reader is taken through his life experiences with such reallistic descriptions taht one feels he can actually feel the authors feelings his anguish, his elation, his sadness and his fears. that is why this book is not ordinary mainly because it is not some story of some materialistic man who made it big in this world but it is the story of a man who rose above this world to seek the spiritual world and reached out to touch the very heart of God in his most intimate place which is the forest of Grace Vrindavan which he so beautifully described in this book.
many people who may pick this book may think that this is justone more storyof struggle and rags to riches story which usually successful business men write. but this story is of a person who came from a very unlikely background and how his quest for god was so great that it made him travel and hitchhike all the way from the west facing untold misery and risks to reach the most holiest of all holy places Vrindavan.
so pls read this book with the intention of imbibing some of the teachings into our lives, try to absorb the essense of this book which si to inspire the quest for spirituality. that is the success of this book, if even one soul after reading this book understand that life is not just one big race after money, power and prosperity, and understands that life is meant for searching forthat Supreme who resides deep within our hearts.
Please read this book with a heart which is melted not which is stone like hard in order to let the sublime teachings which can then penetrate within our hearts. thats what this book has done to my heart. It has melted my heart. yet the goal which the book points towards is yet so far but one solace is that at least i am on the road which leads towards that glorious destination . the forest of grace-
    Vrindavan.

This is one of the most amazing books I have ever read. You feel as if author is taking you along on his journey. It was author who was travelling from country to country in search of God and while reading I felt i am part of the episode as if i am travelling with him. When we put ourselves in to authors shoes his journey home was not that easy. He has been through provoking situations someone not sincere would have given up his search at an early stage.

I humbly beg to all the readers of this comment to read this book attentively i am sure it will change your life.

    An Adventurous and Soul-elevating Book

The Journey Home is an adventurous book. There are many subjects of adventures, but this book is on ‘Spiritual Adventure.’ The book is also about a journey. A young American boy sets out for a journey to know about God. The book vivifies his feats during the journey.

This is book is autobiography of Radhanath Swami. He illustrated events of his life marvelously, touching every edge of human sentiment. Radhanath Swami has poured all his heart into this book and the write-up shows his sincere attitude towards the readers.

The book begins with childhood family life of Radhanath Swami. It introduces him as Richard Slavin, a boy with unquenchable thirst for spirituality, with a blazing fire of inquisitiveness of God in his belly. Richard was born and brought up in suburbs of Chicago. He had keen interest to go out and study God. So he sets out on journey to the East with his friend Gary.

At this point begins adventures of his journey that are really, really awesome and superb to read on. In about one-and-half-year Radhanath Swami had all sorts of contingencies that anyone can possibly have. A reader can’t help but read them by getting bogged to the book. Turns of the adventures are simply amazing: A perfect blend of suspense, humor and reprimand. The reader can both enjoy and learn from them.

The Journey Home fans the spark of Brahma Jignasa (the inquiry of God) in the reader. Radhanath Swami studied number of religious paths such as Islam, Judaism, Christianity and number of spiritual processes such as meditation, yoga etc. He eventually finds the inner, real love – which he has been seeking – in devotion to Krishna. The book takes the reader to virtual journey that culminates into joyful union with God’s love. The book proffers one to ask about God and finally offers God. Its really heart-melting!

Radhanath Swami has woven the essence of all scriptures in beautiful fabric of his biography. Through this book review, I would like to extend this book to all the readers. This is book is worth reading and commendable. I appreciate Radhanath Swami. And with one request I end this review: Please read “The Journey Home.”

    Thank you!

Right from childhood, I have been fascinated by stories of great people like Dhruva who went to the forest to pursue higher goals. For me, these stories always remained a mystery and something that always happened in the distant past. That is, till I came across this book, “The Journey Home”. This book really showed me how a sincere seeker is guided by a Higher Power much beyond us, as much today as at any time in the past. What it takes is a sincere effort to understand higher truths. Radhanath Swami is an epitome of a relentless search for the highest truths and not stopping at anythig short of it. What I appreciate most about this book is the gratitude that Radhanath Swami exhibits all through. Whether good things happen to him or bad, he is always grateful and learns very valuable lessons from them all.

Radhanath Swami shares his lessons with all of us. These lessons are about universal thuths that go beyond all sectarian boundaries.

He has so much reverence for all faiths. He has so much respect for all walks of life. And most importantly, the sincerity and integrity of purpose that Radhanath Swami exhibits is spell binding.

A very inspiring book indeed. I am so grafeful to him for sharing his life with us. This gives me hope that even in today’s world we can pursue spiritual goals and be successful in life. I am very happy that I have come in touch with Radhanath Swami through his book.

I would highly recommend this book to all seekers of highest truth from all walks of life.

Although he gets a bit scared (since he is only 10 years old) while reading parts like Istanbul, Turkey etc, yet he cannot bring himslef to close the book.

In this world everyone is mad after something or else, mostly in trying to satisfy one’s so called goals which promise relative material happiness. However, in His Holiness Radhanath Swami’s life through this book Journey Home, we find resolute determination, pinpointed attention, committment and unlimited sacrifice of a teenaged boy leaving behind so called opulence, protection to achieve this supreme most goal – The absolute truth. This book surely helps sincere seekers on the path of spirituality increase their quest to achieve the ultimate, and shows what one should be prepared to do to achieve it. It also helps those who are bit/or much more confused about the dualities in this world and want to find a way out. My heartfelt gratitude and thanks to His Holiness Radhanath Swami for presenting his inspirational life through Jouney Home to all of us.

The most wonderful book that I have read lately. I have read quite some autobiographies. This is an autobiography which not only enthuses us on our spiritual quest but also teaches so many aspects of quality spiritual life. Reading the quotes / realizations of this personality, I can so much feel that they are coming deep from his heart. Just by an ordinary superficial practise of spiritual life, one cannot speak such deep realizations. Thank you very much to write this book.

I wish that you write another book which describes about what all that happened later.

I started reading the book thinking i will read occasionally a little little, but Radhanath Swami, shares his experiences in such a “natural and human” way, that one just feels that he is experiencing the same situation, and i could not leave the book for hours and hours and hours ….
IT IS A MUST READ FOR ANY ONE WHO WANTS TO HAVE TRUE MEANING IN LIFE.

Radhanath Swami is a unique personality where in although he met so many spiiritualists he never criticised or condemned anyone even of those who were of different religion than his. this shows how broadminded he is, just to accept and learn the true message of God. He saw many conflicts among the spiritualists in Delhi but still it didnt deterred his determination to find out the right path. I very much appreciate this quality of the author of non-judgemental and ready to accept and learn things. Thank you Radhanath Swami for setting such a nice example and to write such a book which can transform the lives of many people.

i am stalwart book reader from my beginning, i had read thousands of books ,,BUT THIS BOOK IS BEST BOOK EVER I READ,,,it is so heart touching at every moment,,at certain times of books i just couldn’t control tears in my eyes,,it is so amazing ,,tat radhanath maharaj goes to much pain and suffering on the way to realize the ultimate truth with practically no money and at such an early age of his live,,it practically proves that how god helps one if one completely surrenders to Him ,,and certainly i think it is nothing but the miracle which lord Krishna has performed because it was practically impossible for such a teen boy to come alive from the countries like Afghanistan,Iran,,It definitely proves god is the master of all and he gives protection to those who are fully surrendered to him,,,and this book also tells how radhanath maharaj went to the caves of the Himalaya and performed so much austerity and penance,, and he never gave up in his search to realize god,,and it is so wonderful that he met with powerful devotee srila prabhupada ,,,,,actually this was the set out plan of supreme personality of godhead krishna ,,”the way lord krsna, twist and turns ,,his plan,,and protect the devotee just like Prahlad maharaj is amazing,”,,,hh radhanath maharaj is fully surrendered soul to krsna,,,and way in which krsna loves him ,teaches, protects, guides him,,is perfectly shown in this book,,,,,,,,,,,jai his holliness radhanath swami maharaj,,,my millions of humble obessiance unto youres lotus feet,,,,jai srila prabhupada,,jai shree krishna,,,..hare krsna! ;;;;;;;;;;;;A MUST READ BOOK FOR ALL SPIRITUAL SEEKERS ,,AND DEVOTEE OF LORD KRSNA,,,AND FOR ALL THOSE WHO WANT TO INCREASE THEIR FAITH IN LORD KRSNA,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Excellent story telling. I purchased this book and read few pages.Somehow it left behind and after one or two months when I was in Delhi for official work my son who finished his 10th Exams 2/3 days before called me and asked whether you have read this book fully.I said no and he said he has finished it in 2 days. After my return I also finished that book in 4 to 5 days.I really got absorbed fully in reading when I started reading the Authors experiences when and after he enters India.Long back I have seen the TV serial yatra promoted by Indian Railway and in which they have shown how that hero travels length and breadth of India. But this journey alongwith Radhanath swami was a unique. It was completely subtle. You actually travel with him in your mind with your intelligence.
So many lessons to learn from. One of them is that Radhanath Swami has learned all the good things from all saintly persons he has met.He respected all of them. But he kept on his onward journey to find his own final destination where he would be taking complete shelter of and follow that path throughout his life. Finally he got it and taken the shelter at the feet of AC Bhaktivedanta swami. But throughout this journey Radhanath Swami never criticized or condemned anybody or any of the teachings.

The book ‘Journey Home’ has had a profound effect in my life. I had picked up a copy of this book at Radha Gopinath temple in Mumbai India, and read the entire book on the flight from Mumbai to Atlanta, USA, where I reside. It was difficult to put the book down. I did not sleep, and ate just a morsel, as I did not want to be disturbed. When I turned the last page of the book, I sat in a daze for at least ten minutes. I had just been on a journey with someone who had endured so much that I would never have thought possible for any human being. I began to realize how much one gives up to achieve what one desires. I also realized that I had done the same, but for diametrically opposite reasons.
I had left my home in India and come to the US purely for material gains, while HH Radhanath Swami Maharaj had given up his home in the US and come to India to self realize. He had gained everything, whereas I am still searching for happiness.

I sincerely wish to have all the youth in India and elsewhere read this book, as it will allow them to place their values in proper perspective.
This book should be a must read in Colleges for all students, so that
they may identify with the real meaning of life.

My most humble obeisances to you Maharaj.

The Journey Home is a book which can be compared to an ocean of treasure, as one takes a dive in, the treasures unfold in the pages. There are books and books but some just stand as rare jewels. The author has poured out his heart through his experiences and each episode is a revelation, the pages amuse you, bring you to a suspense, probe into the cultures so vast which have their significance ,as the author crosses physical boundaries across unknown lands he carries with him a new learning. A quest that is fueled by hunger to probe into the very realm of life itself. In all it is a journey traversed with a burning passion which ultimately leads to a destination we are all in search of, we may have been near and around but somehow lost the way, the author’s conviction revives our quest.

Book books and books all kinds are to be found, some we read voluntarily ,some reluctantly yet we read. The ‘ Journey Home’ is a treasure chest in disguise of a book, as one reads through the pages there is adventure, there are hair raising events, there is love, there is thirst and much more, yet the most important aspect is there is something for everyone to identify with, it sets you into a journey which though one may have attempted several times the results may have been not too great, but the book revels a road map accompanied with a compass for us to carry on the journey. So walk on buddy there is no room for disappointments you are in safe hands the resultant outcome has nothing but gains and gains that to without much pains.Radhanath Swami has given a treasure ,all we need to do, is to take it into our hands and read.

  341. On June 8th, 2011 at 8:35 am Arjun K Ramachandra Says:

The Journey Home is an inspirational classic written by a man who is transforming the lives of millions today. Radhanath Swami tells the story with such simplicity, devotion and childish innocence. What is amazing is his unswerving determination to achieve what was dear to his heart.
Right from his childhood he was a totally different person never fitting in the modern lifestyle of selfish pursuits. Always being on the recieving side of insults, criticism, injustice, racist comments and even violent physical attacks he never retaliated but rather sought to learn valuable lessons from each of them. These lessons appear after every such story in the book which i consider to be the most valuable input for all of us.

After going through inconcievable difficulties and tribulations he finally finds the path he is looking for, to which he can dedicate his life and soul. I remember Radhanath Swami once talking to a group of his students at mumbai. He was telling them ” For me it wasn’t easy to come to this topmost understanding of spirituality, i had to go through a lot of difficulties. But you all have recieved direct access to this great treasure, so the only reciprocation from your side is that you have to be grateful for all you have recieved and value it, treasure it. Never take it for granted”.

From this i understood that i have been extremely fortunate to recieve this spritual knowledge so easily and should be very cautious never to underestimate it’s value. I am sure this book will reach out and touch the hearts of millions of suffering souls and give them direction, hope and faith in the hand of god.

Truely great read..The most touching thing i liked about the book and the author is that he never complained in any of the situations, nor did he compromised on his determination on this journey. On the top of this, every situation was taken by Radhanath Swami as a learning lesson. This is ‘THE’ attitude. ‘Attitude decides Altitude’..and that explains how being positive, determined and sincere Radhanath Swami has reached the peak of spirituality from where he is able to help 1000s others struggling to walk on the same path. His autobiography is a real hope giving and direction giving to all the seekers of Truth…In nutshell, all without exceptions can get many many positive outlooks though this book.

Really amazing book. While reading it seems you are watching each event in front your eyes. Radhanath Swami , the author remembers each and every detail of what he saw and went through. Wonderfully expressed his heart!

Such a serious and sincere desire to inquire about GOD that he accepted all the challenges that came on way. Not simple ones, some were life threatening. Amazing!

Each and every guru that he met , Radhanath Swami respected them and learned the lesson and carried on his journey until he found one to whom he could dedicate his life. He said in many lectures ” Prabhupada is my and Soul”.

Such love , such dedication, such warmth, such selflessness – where do u see in this world ? because its love for GOD beyond this world!

I have read this book and found it to be one of the most attractive as well as meaningful piece of narration. This book carries deep message of love and broadmindedness towards the need and concern of other people. Apart of the natural narrations of the incidents in the life of Richard later Radhanath Swami, the central theme of the book I found is the quest of a young boy to find something meaningful in his life beyond the externals. His search for the lost relationship with the supreme lord. I specially liked the excerpts of the book when Radhanath Maharaja was in Vrindavan India. Saying “Of all the religious practices I found and came across that the simple selfless devotional service of the Vrajvasis towards their eternal master Krsna and Radharani most pleasing to my heart”.

I have read many books on spirituality.. but the none of them matched this soul searching real life time incidence of Radhanath swami.. One of the best thing i could appreciate in the book is that the heart felt desire of Radhanath swami to make such bold decision to ultimately reach the goal of his life..no where in the book we find any negative word… every path is appreciated in his own way and finally the book guides us to the ultimate path..
